Keith's Presentations

Every now and again I become inspired enough to present a talk to a technical audience. The slides for some of those are stored on this site.

Why is Ruby such a good language for Rails?

August 2007

These are the slides from a talk I gave at the Sydney Rails Group meetup on 15th August, 2007 about how the power of metaprogramming makes Ruby such a good language for Rails (PDF).

February 2007

These are the slides from a talk I gave about Getting Started with Capistrano (PDF) at the Sydney Rails Group meetup on 21st February, 2007. It presents ten steps to getting started with using Capistrano to deploy a Rails application.

J2EE and Open Source Innovation

December 2006

These are the slides from the paper about the relationship between Open Source and the Java Enterprise Edition standard that I presented on 7th December, 2006 at the Open Source Developers' Conference in Melbourne.

They are available in HTML, PDF or as an Open Office presentation. Here is the paper that was included in the conference proceedings. Or, if you prefer, you can download the paper as it actually appeared in the proceedings, from here.

Ruby on Rails Experience Report

May 2006

I started experimenting with Ruby on Rails in late 2004. Then, in mid 2005, my Rails curiosity was piqued by Dave Thomas when he published his excellent book and I've been hooked ever since. This is a report on my experience with Rails.

It is available in HTML or as an Open Office presentation.

JavaServer Faces Overview

May 2004

This talk came about as a result of my curiosity about what JSF was all about from a fundamental technical viewpoint. And, to be fair, my boss did give me a nudge to explore this topic. The presentation is at an introductory level and focuses on the bare JSF technology rather than any tools.

It is available in HTML or as an Open Office presentation.
